This is probably one of the harder questions for me to answer.
This week’s topic: What does your bookcase look like? What’s on there? Which are your keepers? Which author(s) has/have influenced you the most?
See I don’t really have a bookcase. I have piles of books. Reference. Favorites. To Read. To Analyze. Keepers. Donate.
I have books from Nora Roberts, Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, Malcom X, Mercedes Lackey, Eden Bradley, Gena Showalter, Gemma Halliday to name a few. I also have my electronic bookshelf. And that’s more divided by category. But some of the authors are Iyanla Vanzant, Farrah Rochon, Louisa Edwards, Suzanne Collins, Agatha Christie, Philippa Greggory, Jaci Burton, Kirsten Painter and Cassandra Clare to name a few.
But who has influenced me most. Mercedes Lackey, Jacqueline Carey, Nora Roberts, L.A. Banks, Octavia Butler, Francis Ray and Brenda Jackson.
There are many authors who I have read who have influenced me with their style. They have made me want to write better. They have made me want to improve my craft.
If you want to check out how a few of my writing friends write:
* Alexia Reed * Angeleque Ford * Emma G. Delaney * Kimberly Farris *Kristen Koster *
Thanks for letting us peek at your shelves! I never got into Mercedes Lackey. I discovered Anne McCaffrey first and it felt much richer to me. Lots of familiar names on your author lists and I’ve even read several of them. Octavia Butler was an interesting read. I remember it as being very lush writing.
Before I had nightstand with shelves, I kept a pile of books next to bed. Actually, some nights the pile returns.
I haven’t read some of the authors you mentioned. I’ll have to check them out.
