Reality TV

Why is there so many reality tv shows? I’m not complaining. Much. Because there are a couple I actually like.
- Dancing with the Stars
- Project Runway
- Let’s Talk About Pep
- Forensic Files
- Cake Boss
- Top Chef
- Operation Repo
Okay. So maybe I like more than a couple.
Some are train wrecks. I won’t name them but if you’ve watched them you know what they are. And of course it got me thinking about people, relationships which led me of course to characters. As writers, we try to make our characters dynamic, relatable, realistic, human, flawed. And reality tv makes for some great character studies.

A Few Quotes

You’ve probably noticed that I like quotes.
Here are a few writing related quotes I’ve stumbled across lately.
“Words – so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them.” ~ Nathaniel Hawthorne
“The main rule of writing is that, if you do it with enough assurance and confidence, you’re allowed to do whatever you like. (That may be a rule for life as well as for writing. But it’s definitely true for writing.)” ~ Neil Gaiman
“If there’s a book you really want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” ~ Toni Morrison
“Believe in yourself and in your own voice, because there will be times in this business when you will be the only one who does. Take heart from the knowledge that an author with a strong voice will often have trouble at the start of his or her career because strong, distinctive voices sometimes make editors nervous. But in the end, only the strong survive.”
~ Jayne Ann Krentz
“You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you.” ~ Ray Bradbury
“The role of a writer is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say”. ~ Anaïs Nin
